Dr. Byron Johnson serves as Choir Director at Trinity Church.

About Dr. Byron Johnson:

Byron holds Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy, and an Advanced Certificate from the Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music in London, England. 

He is a prize winner at state and regional voice competitions, and has performed in operas with opera companies in the United States and Europe.

His skills include singing, vocal coaching, teaching, musical theater, chamber music, music theory, composition, performing arts, conducting, ensemble, acting, and church music.

In addition, Dr. Johnson:

• Serves as an Associate Professor of Music at Alcorn State University

• Teaches vocal literature, applied voice, opera history and diction

• Prepares students for voice recitals, performances and competitions

• Has taught music history, music theory and aural skills to undergraduate music majors

• Is an accomplished recitalist and soloist 

• Has performed extensively in the United States, Canada, England, Spain, and the Caribbean

• Conducts choral workshops and voice master classes both in the United States and internationally. His students are frequent winners and finalists at state, regional and national voice competitions; and some earn apprenticeships in young artist programs and summer opera festivals

• Serves as Regional Recording Secretary for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (Southern Chapter)

• Serves as the current Alcorn State University Faculty Senate Chair
